Can I get paid for the electricity I export?

Yes, through the Smart Export Guarantee. Larger energy suppliers must offer an export tariff that pays you for each unit your system sends to the grid. Each supplier sets its own rate and you don't have to export through the company that supplies your power, so it pays to compare. To claim, you need a smart meter that records export, and the installation needs an MCS certificate. Ask us about this when you book your survey.

How do you assess if my roof is suitable for solar panels?

We carry out a detailed site survey that checks roof orientation, pitch, condition and shading from trees or neighbouring buildings. For older or unusual roof structures we review load-bearing capacity and recommend appropriate fixings or alternative mounting systems. Do solar panels work in winter or on cloudy days?

Yes. They still generate on cloudy days, just less than in bright sunshine. Output is lowest in the short days of winter and highest from spring to early autumn, which is why we design around your yearly electricity use rather than a single day.

Can I add a battery later?

Yes. We design solar systems so a battery can be added later without starting again, usually by choosing a suitable inverter. Our Battery Storage Systems page explains how adding a battery works.

Survey and design

We look at your roof, its condition and shading, your consumer unit and cable routes, and ask how your home uses electricity.

Permissions and paperwork

We check whether planning permission is needed (for most homes it isn't) and notify your local electricity network operator, as the regulations require.

Installation

We fit the panels, mounting rails and inverter, run the cables neatly back to your consumer unit and test everything.

Handover

We commission the system, show you how to see what it's generating, and give you the certificates and warranty paperwork.

Not at the moment. Solar panels installed in homes in Great Britain are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, and the rate is due to go up to 5% after that. The 0% rate covers the panels and the fitting together, so it's already reflected in your quotation.
